Handlers used to tell me the same thing. They weren't always confident the training was going to hold. New to it, or just not quite there yet with this dog - and they needed to know that when things started to go wrong, they still had something solid to hold onto. That the collar would stay where it was. That the dog wouldn't drift the moment the handle came off.

I designed this lead one night. Tested it the next day. It was right. We've been making them ever since - and we weren't the only ones paying attention. You'll find other versions out there now. They came later. This didn't.

This is the original KB Trigger Release Heel Slip Lead. Designed here, built by hand in Yorkshire, and it's still the one that holds up.

The idea behind it is straightforward. The trigger release detaches the handle cleanly. The slip collar stays exactly where it is. The dog stays settled. You stay in control. It's a simple mechanism. It took a bit of thinking to get right.

Short lead by design. Your dog has nowhere to drift off heel. The stopper holds the neck loop in position. The swivel keeps everything clean on an active dog. There's no slack to hide behind, for you or the dog.

One thing worth saying about the hardware: every KB Trigger Release Heel Slip Lead uses a proper heavy-duty claw clip - fully secure, marine-grade, built to hold. A lot of what you'll find on copied versions uses a D-spring clip. Cheaper to source, easier to make, and a lot more likely to let go at the wrong moment. Ours doesn't cut corners on the hardware. Never has. Never will.

Takes a fair while to make each one, if I'm being straight with you. More curses than swivels on a bad day. But it's right when it's done.

• Highest quality marine-grade hardware throughout - heavy-duty claw clip and rings
• Rope is the best quality braided PPM - no stretch (stoppers stay put), washable, fast drying, stain resistant and non-toxic
• No metal clips holding the rope together - no sharp edges, no nasty surprises
• Heavy-duty claw clip - not the cheap D-spring clip you'll find on copies. Ours is built to hold when it matters

These aren't leads knocked together from whatever's available. Every part is chosen because it does the job properly, for as long as you need it to.
