Handlers kept telling me the same thing. Their dog was doing well - genuinely coming on - but the moment it got a bit excited, the lead would start to twist. Dog spins, lead winds up, tightens on the neck, tightens on the hand. The longer the lead, the worse it gets. Not dangerous. Just annoying. And it broke the session every time it happened.

What they needed was a swivel slip lead that could keep up with the dog. So we built one. A mid-lead swivel - marine-grade, same quality as everything else we make - that takes the twist out before it becomes a problem. Dog moves, lead stays clean. We called it the Jive.

The 8mm is the same lead. Same mechanism, same marine-grade swivel, same PPM rope. Just wider. We make it because people ask for it - handlers who prefer a chunkier feel in the hand, or who are working with a bigger, stronger dog and want that little bit more substance to hold onto. I'll be straight with you: we use the 6mm ourselves. But plenty of people like the 8mm and it's every bit as well made, so here it is.

One thing to be aware of: the 8mm comes in fewer colourways than the 6mm - 22 options rather than 40+. Still plenty to choose from. Just not quite every colour under the sun.

Built to last - materials:

• Marine-grade mid-lead swivel - takes the twist out on an active or over-enthusiastic dog without any tension on the neck
• Marine-grade ring and hardware throughout
• Rope is the best quality braided PPM - no stretch (ensuring the stopper remains in place), washable, fast drying, stain resistant and non-toxic
• No metal clips holding the rope together - no sharp edges, no nasty surprises

These aren't leads knocked together from whatever's cheap. Every material is chosen because it does the job properly, for as long as you need it to.
